Less Lethal is a series of works created using the trieline printing technique, which has been widely used by artists since the mid 60s as an alternative to screen printing. Through this technique, which combines both mechanical and manual processes, the ink is transferred onto a cotton paper substrate using a chemical solvent, producing an image with a tactile grain that appears to be a pencil drawing. By selecting certain details and enlarging photographs from the media, the artist highlights elements related to firearms issued to police forces in many European and non-European countries, which are considered "less lethal" because they use non-traditional metal projectiles. Although firearms with rubber bullets, as well as other devices such as tasers and batons, are less lethal than traditional ammunition and firearms, in recent years they have caused the deaths of many people because they are used at close range, aimed at the chest or head of civilians. In recent international debates, the term “weaponization of public space” has emerged, meaning the literal transformation of public space into a weapon. Additionally, public order in European and global cities is increasingly managed by highly militarized police forces, equipped with weapons that, while less lethal in terms of materials, are used with techniques and methods typical of special forces and the military. Less Lethal highlights the paradox of the innocence of the tools, even the weapons themselves, which, when used improperly in a space that has been transformed into a weapon, shift the responsibility of their use onto the human agent behind those tools and the military apparatus they represent. In the series, the works featuring images of police officers are accompanied by technical drawings of exploded views of weapons used by law enforcement agencies to maintain public order.
